Best Places to Visit in Arizona

Best Places to Visit in Arizona

In celebration to be finally leaving my home state I wanted to go through the beautiful places you can visit in the wonderful state of Arizona.   I could write for years about Arizona, but this list is only a brief outline of a few of my favorite places I have been.

Arizona is so unique because it has a little bit of everything.   There are big bustling cities, small towns, outdoor wonderlands, beautiful lakes, mountains for miles, natural wonders, 100+ degree weather, snow, outdoor animals, and so much more! Arizona will forever be one of my favorite places in the world for so many reasons.  Arizona has grown substantially in the past few years, and here are some of my favorite places I have visited in my life.

Northern Arizona

Flagstaff

Flagstaff is my favorite city to go to in Northern Arizona because it is a perfect mix of a city while still being close to some of the most beautiful outdoor areas in the state.  Flagstaff is only a few hours away from Phoenix. You can go camping, hiking and during the winter months you can go to the snow in this city! It is also growing a lot and a great place to live full time!

Sedona

Sedona is a beautiful city to visit.  People come from all over the world just to go to Sedona.  Sedona is known as a spiritual city.  There are energy vortexes, beautiful hiking trails, and so much more.  Sedona has one of the greatest vibes of any city in Arizona.  You can go hiking, swimming, go to a fortune teller, buy crystals, meditate, and so much more!

Grand Canyon

You cannot come to AZ and not visit the natural winder that is the Grand Canyon! The Grand Canyon is one of the natural wonders of the world.  This mile deep, 277 miles long and 18 miles wide wonder cannot be missed.  You can just spend a few hours here at the top, but I would recommend climbing to the bottom and enjoying the Colorado river and camping.  It is a beautiful place to be and I would say it is the greatest site in Arizona for tourists.

Prescott

Prescott is the closest outdoorsy city to Phoenix.  It is about a 1.5 hour drive from phoenix and has some of the best camping places in the near area. There are beautiful lakes, trees, hidden gems, and so much more.  I like Prescott because it has the small town forest vibes like Flagstaff but it is less populated and a lot closer to the main city of Phoenix.

Antelope Canyon / Horseshoe Bend

Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend are both close to each other so make sure to do both. These sites are both located on Indian Reservations so you do have to have a guide go with you. Make sure to book ahead of time. They are both some of the most beautiful sites in Arizona. You can even kayak in the water around horseshoe bend. I have personally never been to either one of these, but I hope to in the near future.

Middle (Mainland) AZ

Lakes

Arizona is known for its many beautiful lakes surrounded by mountains.   My favorite activity in Arizona is going to the lake.  You can do so many activities at the lakes.   You can swim, go boating, kayak, tube down the river, hike, have a picnic, jet-ski, and so much more!  Lakes in AZ are so unique because they are surrounded by beautiful mountains and luckily almost never cold!

*Make sure you don’t forget water and sunscreen if you are visiting the lakes or anything outdoors in AZ.  You will get dehydrated and sunburnt without them.

Scottsdale

Scottsdale is the fancy city people usually stay in when they visit AZ.  It is the top city for restaurants, shopping, bars, clubs, and more.  I like to call it Scottsdazzle because it gives some extra pizzazz to Arizona.  This is the “most popular” city for young single adults.

Downtown Phoenix

If you like nightlife, but you are more of a laid back person Downtown Phoenix is for you.  Bars in Downtown Phoenix are my favorite because, in my opinion, they are so unique and have a lot more to offer than Scottsdale if you want to be able to talk to each other.

Downtown Phoenix is also where a lot of AZ events take place.  There are Sun’s basketball games, Diamondback baseball games, Coyote Hockey Games, concerts, and so much more!

Tempe

Tempe is the home of the best Arizona University (Arizona State University) and the biggest college town in AZ.   I love Tempe because it is a town that you can walk to everything.  There are many cool restaurants, a cute lake, lots of bars and clubs, and so much more!  This was my favorite city when I was in college.  The only downside of it is that it is a college town, so if you are a bit older it is better to go to Scottsdale.  If you are in college it is the best place in AZ to be!

Apache Junction

Apache Junction is known for it’s old ghost town vibes near the superstition mountains in Eastern AZ.  It has a very cool ghost town and mining area. The Superstition Mountains are nearby which is a ~250 mile^2 area for hiking. It is also home to Saguaro Lake which is a huge lake in the middle of the mountains. The Superstition mountains and Saguaro Lake are my favorite local outdoor areas in Arizona.

Southern AZ

I did not take this picture because I stay away from U of A. This is from AZ Republic

Tucson

As much as I hate U of A aka Tucson I guess it can be on the list.   Tucson luckily isn’t just University of Arizona… it has a lot of hidden gems that not a lot of people know about.  Tucson has many big and beautiful mountains including Mount Lemmon.  Tucson also has Pima Air and Space museum is a cool air plane museum in the area.  You can also get the best Mexican food in the state and possibly even visit The University of Arizona.  Tucson isn’t just dirt, it has some other things.  I would be careful if you venture off the main path.  It can be dangerous.

Bisbee

Bisbee is a small southeast mining old town It has beautiful mountain views, museums, historic homes, and so much more.   It is fun to see the old charm. It isn’t a super popular tourist destination, but if you are in Arizonan for a while take a small trip to see the small town.

I hope this helped you learn a little more about the beautiful state of Arizona! Arizona is growing tremendously and has so much to offer that I think a lot of people don’t know about. I could talk about so many more places in this state, but this is a good starting list.

Have you been to every place on this list?

Is there any spot you want to go to that you haven’t?

What is your favorite spot in Arizona?

Have a great trip and enjoy Arizona!

  7. You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I
find this matter to be really something that I think I would never understand.
It seems too complicated and very broad for me.

  8. I’m impressed, I have to admit. Seldom do I encounter a blog that’s both equally
educative and entertaining, and without a doubt, you have hit the
nail on the head. The issue is something that too few men and women are speaking intelligently about.

  12. Can I simply say what a comfort to uncover somebody who genuinely knows what they are discussing on the net. You definitely realize how to bring a problem to light and make it important. More and more people have to look at this and understand this side of the story. I cant believe you are not more popular given that you most certainly have the gift.

  13. Hiya! I know this is kinda off topic but I’d figured I’d ask. Would you be interested in exchanging links or maybe guest authoring a blog article or vice-versa?
