Nagoya, Japan

Top Places to visit in Nagoya, Japan

Nagoya was the first city I ever went to in Japan.

Nagoya gave me my first impression, first sweet feeling, first turning aura of this beautiful country when I landed in the city for the first time.

Nagoya is one of the biggest cities in Japan, but it isn’t as crowded or full of tourist traps as a lot of the other cities in Japan.  Nagoya has so much to offer and is a great place to explore for even a few days on your trip to Japan.  It has some of the most beautiful temples, gardens, towers, flea markets, bars and clubs and so much more.  I really enjoyed Nagoya because it was easy to navigate, small enough to walk or bike around and had so much to do around every corner.  You must visit Nagoya during your trip to Japan.

Japan is easily the most impactful place I have ever been in my life, and I am so excited to share a little about it with you.  Japan is one of the most amazing countries I have ever been to for so many reasons.  I learned more in Japan than anywhere on Earth.

I am very thankful for my time I got to spend in Nagoya.  I spent a long time in this city so I was able to explore a lot more than I thought I would.  Here are my top places I visited in Nagoya.

Top Places to Visit in Nagoya, Japan

1.    Nagoya Castle

The Nagoya Castle is one of the most popular castles in Japan and definitely most popular castle in Nagoya, Japan. This castle was constructed in 1619. The castle is located in the center of Japan and can now be visited by tourists.  There are also little shows that happen along the castle grounds on the weekends tourists can go to to enjoy the day.

2.    Atsuta-jingu

The Atsuta-Jingu shirine is a 200,000 square meter shrine.  This was one of the greatest places of worship in Japan in ancient times.   It protects the Sun Goddess Amaterasu and stores the sacred sword Kusanagi, but that the sword is never displayed to the public.

3.    Nagoya TV Tower

The Nagota TV tower is the oldest TV tower in Japan.   It is relatively centrally located in Nagoya.  There are many restaurants and observation decks.  It is a great place to visit at night to see a great view of the city.

4.    Flea Markets / Shop

There are several shopping areas in Nagoya, but my favorites are the outdoor shopping centers.  They are located around the city and have anything from clothing shops to street food to desserts to video games, and so much more! You could spend days just shopping in Nagoya.

5.    Nightlife

The Nightlife in Nagoya is amazing! There are so many places to go out and have fun! There are classic clubs, more risqué areas, bars and so much more! You will find these centrally located around Nagoya.

6.    Try the food

Nagoya is known for its famous Miso katsu.  You can read about it here. There is also a lot of other amazing food to try – barbeque, Udon, Tenmusu.  You can read more about the different kinds of food in Japan here.

7.    Tokugawaen Garden

Tokugawaen Garden is a small cute garden in the center of Nagoya.  It is surrounded by trees, lakes, flowers, and small places to get a bite to eat.  It is a very beautiful place to visit any time of day!

8.    Osu Kannon

Osu Kannon is a popular buddhist tempe in central Nagoya.  It was reconstructed in the 20th century after being destroyed by flooding.  It is surrounded by flea markets that you can get just about anything at! This is a great place to spend a few hours because it is not only a temple but a whole area to explore.

9.    Shirotori garden

Shirotori garden is one of my favorite places in the city.  It is a small and very intimate garden surrounded by tea houses,  flowers, beautiful streams of water, and so much more.  It is a beautiful place to come on your own to relax or visit to wind down.
