Things to do In Tel Aviv, Israel

Top places to go and things to do in Tel Aviv!

Tel Aviv is one of the most popular cities in Israel.  It is where most people stay on their vacations for the long run because it is a centralized spot and has so many great things to do.  Tel Aviv and Israel in general is one of my favorite countries I have ever been to.  From surfing to finding the perfect restaurant, to clubs, to museums, to biking, all the way to relaxing on the beach the possibilities of things to do in Tel Aviv are really endless.  Every time I come back to this beautiful country I am surprised that there are so many more new things to do that I didn’t know was there before.  A lot of things you experience abroad cannot be planned out or read about online.  Sometimes you just have to have an outline and let the rest happen.  That is where I come in.  This list of things to do in Tel Aviv will help you to shape your beautiful visit in Israel.  Israel is a stunning and very welcoming country that everyone should visit at least once in their life time.  There are so many things in this country that can only be experienced in Israel.  Of the thousands of things to do in Tel Aviv, here are my top picks of places to go and activities to partake in that you cannot miss! To read about other things to do in Israel go here.

Here are my top picks on things to do in Tel Aviv, Israel

Top things to do in Tel Aviv

1) Tel Aviv Markets

Tel Aviv Markets are a lot of fun to explore.  There are many throughout the city – some are inside, some are outside, some are during the day, Some are at night, some sell food and drinks, some sell souvenirs and trinkets, some sell just about everything.  You can find fresh fruits, desserts, souvenirs, meals, spices, and so much more! No matter what you will be able to find a market in Tel Aviv you enjoy.

o  Levinshy Market

The Levinshy Market is located in the Florentin neighborhood in Southern Tel Aviv. This is mainly a food market, but it also has little trinkets and souvenirs available for purchase.  The Levinshy market is known for its spices, olives, fresh fruit and local eateries.

o  Carmel Market (Beach Market)

There is one very famous beach market in Tel Aviv called Carmel Market.  They have all types of food that are fresh and ready to go.  I really enjoyed this market because of all the food options it had and how fresh everything smelled and looked.  You can get fresh fruit, made to go smoothies and fruit drinks, fresh fruit and vegetables, spices, so many different kinds of desserts and more! The options are almost endless and it is a very huge market so you are bound to find something you like!

2) Beach

The beach is a top attraction in my opinion in Tel Aviv!  There are so many activities you can do on the sand and in the water.  You can take a walk on the beach, go surfing, go boating, play matkot, workout, the possibilities are endless.  You could easily spend days just on the beach in Tel Aviv.  It is of course better in the summer, but I have gone in winter and the beach activities are still going strong! Just make sure you know where to park or are good at parallel parking if you are driving to the beach! I would recommend walking to the beach or taking a taxi or scooter because parking isn’t fun anywhere in Tel Aviv.

o   Matkot

Matkot is the famous Israeli game you hear about but don’t ever remember the name.  Matkot is a twist between ping pong and tennis.  It has paddles like ping pong (but stronger) and it is played on the beach like tennis without a net.  In other words it is beach tennis. You will see it being played on the beach and it is easy to pick up and the game is sold all around the city.

o   Surfing

Surfing is a no brainer.   You can rent surfboards almost anywhere by the beach and it is super fun and easy to learn and do! You can take a lesson or just go out on your own! Be careful and courteous of everyone else in the water though!

o   Kite Surfing

You can also go kite surfing in Israel. I would recommend only doing this if you are experienced. I haven’t tried it yet, but it looks like a lot of fun to do. It is like surfing but you are holding a “kite” that is blown by the wind to help you surf throughout the water.

3) City center

Tel Aviv city center is a great place to get just about anything done.  It is a huge location for businesses, hotels, food, clubs, bars, restaurants, and more! You could spend an entire day just in this area. It is located a few kilometers off of the beach and right by the train station. It is a great centralized area to visit.

o   Sarona Market

Sarona Market is a centralized market right by the city center and train station.  It is an inside market with almost any kind of food you would want.  There are small eateries as well as small food stores you can buy from.  There is Mexican food, American food, Middle Eastern food, smoothies, shops and so much more.  There are even amazing desert creations and halva for purchase!  Sometimes there are small events here too.  On certain nights there is live music, networking events and more! Stay informed about what is going on because it is usually something fun!

o   Shopping

Shopping is also readily available in Tev Aviv’s city center. Located right by the train station there is a huge shopping center.  This is one of the main places to buy clothes or anything that you would find at a regular mall! It is also attached to several businesses and food areas.

4) Bars / Clubs

There are so many clubs and bars to go to in Tel Aviv, so I was unable to go to all of them but the few I did get to go to were very unique!   There are classic clubs of course … the music, the drinks, the packed to capacity vibes we all love and miss (thanks corona 🙁 )… but there are also is a lot more out there.  Some of the most unique bars I have ever been to were in Tel Aviv.  There are rooftop bars, five story bars, bars with secret entrances and more.  Clubs are mostly located in one area close to one another. On the other hand, bars are in several locations all over the city.

5) Food

The food in Tel Aviv is some of the best I have ever had in my life. I love everything it has to offer and I would recommend trying everything you can!! Every restaurant I went to has its own beautiful charm, and the food is amazing! All the food and drinks are very fresh! There are big popular restaurants you can try that will give you a great atmosphere and the food will taste amazing, but in my experience the smaller hole in the wall restaurants are even better. They are harder to find and honestly I wouldn’t have found most of them if it wasn’t for locals bringing me, and I am very thankful they did!

o  Beach Restaurants

Beach restaurants are a classic in Tel Aviv. Tel Aviv is very popular for their restaurants on the beach.  Every few yards there is a new restaurant to try as you walk along the boardwalk! You can get your food while watching the waves and putting your toes in the sand!  I have many favorite restaurants and these are some of my top! They may be a little more expensive, but the atmosphere makes it worth it!

o  Hole in the Wall Restaurants

My favorite restaurants in Tel Aviv are the smaller ones that aren’t as well known.   I like when they are very tiny and you have to sit upstairs to wait because there is no room downstairs.  These give off a different vibe, and in my opinion taste way better and are a lot cheaper. You can find these in the more inland districts in Tel Aviv or really anywhere.

6) Florintin District

Florintin is a southern part of Tel Aviv close to the beach.  It has an older hipster vibe that a lot of the clubs are near. There are many art districts and street art areas in Florintin as well. It is also right by Levinsky Market. It is known for its Bohemian older, more authentic vibe. Walk around this area if you want a different view of Tel Aviv.

These are only a few of the top most popular things to do in Tel Aviv. As you can tell each activity has a lot to offer and can be done for days. I love Tel Aviv because of the versatility of the city and how awake it feels all the time. The opportunities are endless and the activities will not leave you dissatisfied. There are so many places to go, people to see, and food to try that you will never be bored in Tel Aviv!

There are also so many other things not mentioned above that you can do in Tel Aviv. Which activity is your favorite? Is there something on the list that you have tried and want to share your experience? Is there something you want to know more about that isn’t mentioned? Let me know, and I will cover it! Thanks, and I hope you have a great trip in Tel Aviv, Israel! If you have any questions feel free to contact me.
