How to Travel Safely During the Pandemic

Some of you may still have to travel during this pandemic.  I do not recommend it 99% of the time, but there is always the 1% where it is absolutely necessary.   If you have to travel for whatever reason on a plane or any other populated and popular way – if it is to visit a sick relative, you are moving, or something else – make sure you take precautions before you leave.

Don’t travel just because you are bored during the pandemic.  There are so many things you can do when you are bored.  You can read some of my recommendations here.  There are also many activities you can do outside almost anywhere (and I am sure at least a few in your hometown)  You can read my recommendations for those here.   There is so much to do during a pandemic that we may never have time to do again. Take advantage of it.

Nevertheless, if you find yourself needing to travel during a pandemic for whatever reason – here are my recommendations on what to do before, during, and after your travels. This is how to travel safely during the pandemic

How to Travel Safely During the Pandemic

1)      Bring what you need

Don’t forget to bring the essential items you need for your trip! Some of the most essential items to bring when traveling during a pandemic are: Hand sanitizer, wet wipes, masks, gloves, and food! You may also need to bring beach towels/ bathroom towels or anything else you would be using everyday during your trip. Make you are traveling safely and prepared. There are so many things that could go wrong, but you will have one less worry if you have these few essential items to help you travel safely during the pandemic!

a.  Hand Sanitizer

b. Antibacterial wipes

c.  Masks

d. Gloves

e. Food

2)      Wash your Hands

Washing your hands is important at all times during your trip and life right now and always.  Make sure you wash your hands before you eat, after you handle something unfamiliar to you, and any other time you are in contact with something that could be infected.  This way you will be less likely to get the coronavirus and spread it. You can bring hand sanitizer and antibacterial wipes to hold on your person at all times if you are not near a sink to use actual soap.

3)   Wear a Mask

This is also important for all times during your trip during the pandemic.  Wearing a mask should seem second nature to you at this point.  The world has been doing it for almost a year now, so please continue so we can one day we can take them off and interact the way we used to! Wearing a mask does not only protect you, but it also protects those around you.  Do not be selfish and think you are too good to wear a mask.  Just wear one so we can end the virus! It’s not all about you! This pandemic includes everyone on Earth! Be courteous!

4)      Cover your luggage (luggage cover)

If you want to be extra cautious you can get luggage covers to cover the outside of your luggage so it is less likely to get germs on them. These are becoming more popular in travel when you bags are let out of your site.  Covers will make sure your bags are as safe as possible while on their own! Check the sizes and make sure it fits your suitcase!

5)      Be polite

Everyone has been having a weird time for the past year.  It has been confusing, unclear, and frustrating.  Make sure you stay positive and polite to others while you go about your day.  This isn’t just about you.  It is about everyone.  We can’t end this alone, we have to work together!

6)      Inform those around you if you have been traveling

Make sure you let those around you know if you are traveling or if you had been traveling recently before meeting up with them.  A huge hotspot for getting the virus is while on a plane.  Make sure you inform those around you of the risk so they know what they are getting into and if they are willing to take the risk ! Stay safe!

7)      Be Aware of what you eat / drink

It is important to remember that unless you make your own food you are taking a risk.  Food prepared in restaurants, fast food chains, etc could be exposed to the virus.  In order to avoid this make sure you watch your food being made and don’t let it out of your sight after you get it.  You can even pack your own lunch for the day if you want to be super safe.

8) Know where the nearest medical facilities are located

Make sure you know where the nearest medical facilities are where you will be traveling and in your home town.  In a state of emergency you won’t have time to do research.  To avoid the hassle and stress research before and know where you would go if something goes south!

9)      Check with your doctor

If you are a person of high risk make sure you check with your doctor before you leave.  I would recommend not traveling at all if you are high risk…but if it is imperative, go check with your doctor to make sure you take proper and recommended precautions from a professional.

10)    Don’t Panic

One of the worst things you can do right now is panic.  Don’t let the media rule your thoughts.  Most of it is probably blown out of proportion or fake anyway.  Check where you are reading to make sure you are getting correct info.  Anyone can put anything online now a days.  This virus is obviously real, but don’t panic and make it worse than it is.  Stay calm, be safe, and don’t panic! It will be okay! You can travel safely during the pandemic if you absolutely need to!

These are my top tips on how to travel safely during the pandemic. The coronavirus is a very real problem (as we have figured out this year), and far travel is not advised. Although, if for some reason it is imperative that you travel make sure you follow these tips (and more of your own) if you want to travel safely during the pandemic. There are so many unknowns, and we do not know everything. It is important to stay informed and as safe as you can be! Let’s end this pandemic! Stay safe, stay informed, and only travel if it is absolutely important. If you need to travel follow this guide to learn how to travel safely during the pandemic!
